Customer Reviews:
5 out of 5 stars Benn-isimo!   March 8, 2009
Captain Pugwash (UK)
Mr Benn is another iconic Seventies TV character and his fame deservedly continues with this story that faithfully reproduces the style and feel of the original series. In case you didn't know, Mr Benn is a very ordinary man who lives on a very ordinary street, but a man who has a secret; when he goes to the costume shop on his street he not only dresses as a character but he enters that character's world for a day. This leads to all manner of fantastical adventures where he has a go at being a balloonist, a conjuror, an astronaut and a king, amongst others.
In this book Mr Benn becomes a gladiator for a day and is caught up in an adventure where he has to find an alternative to fighting in order to survive. The story is great but it was the nostalgia-inducing drawings that really sold this book to me.
